The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus is taught at STSDS. The RAD syllabus provides progressive development of technique work throughout a dancer's training and ensure an internationally recognized standard of dance. Examinations are optional upon recommendation and are held annually with an examiner appointed by the Royal Academy of Dance. All students are expected to take part in RAD exams in May every year.
Students enrolled in the program will showcase their work at the ANNUAL DANCE CONCERT, but it is by no means compulsory
Learning ballet requires patience and continual study over time. It is recommended that the commitment for students studying for a Graded examination or Presentation class should be a minimum of one class a week with extra coaching in the period leading up to the examination, particularly as the student progresses towards the higher levels.
Assessments or auditions are by appointment only. Students are evaluated on an individual basis. Children who have little or no ballet training generally do not require an assessment. Students with previous training will be assessed by our principal of dance to ensure placement in the appropriate level.
The aim of this syllabus is to develop awareness of musical movement through simple musical and rhythmical exercises. At this age, students begin the transition from fairy-tale excitement to the self-awareness and pride of dancing ballet. Your child will learn to walk in different ways with their full foot and on tip toes. The classes are carefully designed to help the little ones develop their musicality, balance, coordination, and self-confidence.

Ballet For Boys
Ballet is not just for girls...some boys are very talented in ballet. As a caring parent, you strive to encourage and respect your child's individuality. Your son may have very strong feelings about the activities he wants to participate in.
From an early age, boys are taught that dancing is for girls, or that boys don't dance. Male dancers are sometimes viewed as unusual, making it difficult for parents of boys to encourage participation in dance.
